 \n\nIn this session Richard speaks as a parent and draws on his deeply per
 sonal experience in working to secure accountability and systemic change i
 n the NHS and government following the loss of his son\, Matthew\, in 2020
  during a mental health crisis.\n\nHis experience highlights how vital it 
 is to balance the legal requirements of an investigation with clear\, huma
 ne and empathetic communication with families.\n\nTo understand more about

  lawyers representing health bodies can do better.\nSpeaker:\nRichard Case
 by\n\n\nRichard is former Managing Editor of The Sunday Times and was a bo
 ard director of Times Newspapers Ltd for over a decade.\n\nHe led teams of
  lawyers during the worst corporate crisis in News Corporation history\, w
 as a consultant to the Director of the Serious Fraud Office and both House
 s of Parliament and has given evidence in person to select committees and 
 other government inquiries.\n\nAs Director of Communications for Whitehall
 ’s largest department\, the DWP\, Richard led national policy campaigns 
 for five Secretaries of State. He later worked as Middle East Communicatio
 ns Consultant for the UK Prime Minister’s Office and Cabinet Office\, ad
 vising ministers and Royal Offices in Jordan and Oman.\nHost:\nTim Toulmin
 \nTim founded Alder 15 years ago and provides strategic communications sup
 port across a wide range of complex issues\, including sudden incidents an
 d fatalities\, criminal investigations and trials\, civil litigation\, inq
 uests\, employment disputes\, and EDI-related concerns.\n\nBefore founding
  Alder\, Tim was Director of the Press Complaints Commission\, where he de
 alt daily with the media\, government and senior lawyers on matters of pre
 ss regulation\, privacy and ethics.\n\nHe serves as a trustee of several e
 ducational and campaigning organisations and works closely with our lawyer
