SUMMARY:The Shoreham air disaster prosecution & its aftermath
DESCRIPTION:This event is in both Manchester and Bristol. The speakers will

 en by Tom Kark QC who was instructed by the CPS in the prosecution of Andr
 ew Hill\, the pilot involved in the Shoreham air show disaster. Tom origin
 ally gave this lecture in London in April and it was highly successful. Th
 e lecture will include the following:\n\n 	The charging and the legal issu
 es pre indictment\n 	Counsels’ dealings with the bereaved\n 	The way the
  prosecution put the case\n 	The ‘bad character’ evidence\n 	The defen
 ce case\n 	The legal challenges on securing the evidence\n 	The expert evi
 dence on each side\n 	The wider effect of the verdicts\n\nTom Kark QC. Tom
 ’s work originated in criminal law and he developed a practice prosecuti
 ng and defending white collar criminal cases and serious crime. In 2002 To
 m was appointed Standing Counsel to HM Revenue and Customs and undertook t
 heir most serious and complex prosecutions and for the Serious and Organis
 ed Crime Agency. In the early 2000s he began acting for a number of regula
 tory bodies and their registrants. In 2010 he was appointed counsel to the
  Public Inquiry into Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust Chaired by Rob
 ert Francis QC. Tom continues to practise criminal law and has undertaken 
 a number of health and safety prosecutions including offences involving al
 legations of gross negligence manslaughter. In 2018-2019 Tom was appointed
  by the Health Secretary to undertake a review of the Fit and Proper perso
 n test under regulation 5 of the Health and Social Care Regulations. In 20
 18 he was instructed to prosecute Mr Andrew Hill\, the pilot of the Hawker
  Hunter jet involved in the Shoreham air show disaster.\n\nThis event is f
