How do I join?
Go to the “MEMBERSHIP” page on the website which provides full details as to how to join, provides a link to the application form, and confirms who can apply for membership. The annual membership fee is payable whatever time of year you join but is renewed on 1 January each year.
What do I do if I want to be on the HSLA Committee?
Elections for committee positions take place annually at the HSLA AGM which follows the Annual Conference, which usually takes place in May each year. Prior to this a notice will be sent to all members by the HSLA Administrator. Anyone wishing to run for a position must be nominated and seconded. Where a position is contested there will be a vote at the AGM and voting is also possible by postal vote. Committee positions are elected every two years.
We are always keen to hear from members and others who want to assist and take part in the work of the committee and the association. We often draw on individuals to do so, so please contact the HSLA Administrator through the Contact page.
Who do I contact if I have an enquiry about the HSLA?
Please feel free to get in touch if you have any ideas or feedback in respect of the HSLA by either contacting the appropriate Committee member or the HSLA Administrator, using the Contact page.
What do I do if I want to host a HSLA event?
We always welcome offers of event venues and ideas for events. If you would like to host an event or have an idea for an event then please contact the events officers or HSLA Administrator on using the Contact page.
Do I get CPD for attending HSLA events?
Yes, all HSLA events are CPD accredited.
Can I attend HSLA events if I am not a member?
Some events run by the HSLA are member-only events, although many events are also open to non-members although there is usually a fee for doing attending.
See the “events” page for details of any current events and seminars open to non-members.
How much is it to attend HSLA events?
Most events are entirely free for members except for the annual conference and dinner, for which there is a charge which is set each year.
I am not a lawyer or barrister so can I be a member?
The Constitution provides that those eligible to be members are legal professionals including solicitors, barristers, legal executives, trainee solicitors and pupil barristers. In addition, those involved in teaching and practicing law may apply and their applications will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
However, non-members can attend most of our events on a paid basis including the annual conference and dinner.
The Association is also always keen to work with other partners in the field of health and safety for events and initiatives.
Is corporate membership available?
No, membership is currently offered on an individual basis only.
How much does membership cost?
The subscription for HSLA membership is £65.00 per person. The HSLA membership year is the calendar year — from 1st January to 31st December. There is no reduction for joining part way through the year because HSLA events are free to members or heavily subsidised by HSLA.
When is the HSLA AGM?
The HSLA AGM is held following the Annual Conference, which usually takes place in May each year.
