This webinar will examine the reality of practising Health & Safety law. It will provide an introduction to the law, including the core legislation, and the concepts of risk, reasonable practicability and the reverse burden of proof. It will also cover the HSE’s enforcement strategy, the powers of the regulator and the Sentencing Guidelines which apply to defendants that have been convicted of Health & Safety offences.
This is the first time that HSLA has hosted a webinar and we hope it will be a success. It is particularly appropriate for those relatively new to practicing in Health & Safety law but it is also a useful summary for more experienced practitioners. On this occasion HSLA members are asked to inform their non-member colleagues about it and non-members are encouraged to attend. It would be appropriate for those who are 0 – 5 years PQE and who may in the future wish to join HSLA. Joining details will be provided to those who register to attend.
The Speaker is Zoe Betts who is a senior associate at Pinsent Masons. Zoe is a highly skilled regulatory lawyer and Senior Associate with 15 years’ experience of criminal/regulatory defence work. She has defended numerous organisations and individuals charged with serious health and safety offences, including gross negligence manslaughter and corporate manslaughter.
